I'm pretty new to linux and I need to install Red Hat 9 using FTP as my CD-ROM drive is broken. I've copied the installation files from disk 1 to C:\redhat on a windows XP machine and have also copied the contents of the RPM's from disk 2 and 3 to C:\redhat\redhat\RPMS. I've created a bootdisk using rawrite and it boots up fine, but my NIC is a RealTek 8139/810X and there's no driver in linux for it (when I say FTP installation is prompts for driver). I've downloaded the driver from RealTek however now I'm stuck. It's not like windows where all the files go onto a floppy for me is it. I need to use Makefile to compile some .c file - but I need linux already installed to do this ????? Can somebody please help me? How do I create a driver disk for my NIC?

drvnet.img - Supplemental Network Drivers

from the images directory on the Shrike(rh9) #1 CD/iso file.

Rawrite that to a 2nd floppy. That disk includes 8139cp.o and 8139too.o one of which should do the trick.

Yea you're dead right - about 2 mins after I posted I searched on google and found out about that. It wasn't working for me though (turned out the floppy disk was a bit dodgy !!) so that's why I did't reply to the post. Eventually I created a new floppy and it worked.

Just an FYI for anybody else that may be installing Red Hat 9 via FTP - there's a bug in it. After you set the root password and it starts to read the packages it gives an error saying could not read header list - or something like that. There's an update disk which you can download for that at
