>> Do you have "Auto Media Management"=yes
on your Autochanger\Preferences tab ?
Yes, I've checked and it's ok
>> Browse/retention policy
I've got clients with full backups and I've other groups which incremental backup. For example, in Exchange group, it always does full backup and the volumes aren't recycled automatically.
I think speculos has given the most beneficial hint:
A save set will become recyclable if no dependencies exist
any longer. This is why Legato also knows the term "Backup Cycle", which defines the interval between two fulls.
The result: If you specify the retention policy for n
backup cycles, the save sets will not become recyclable
before all save sets of this backup cycle lost their
dependencies, which is true after n+1 backup cycles. This
makes total sense.
n would only become true if you do not run anything else
but full backups.
2. Of course you must ensure that all backups on a media
have the same or close retention policies. One save set
could block the whole media from becoming recyclable. This
is the technical reason why you want to send such backups
to another pool.
3. Even if all save sets on a media are recyclable (which
set the volume status to "recyclable" as well), NW will not
relabel the media right away (in advance). For maximum recover possibility, he must be in need of a media.
4. According to the manual pages, Auto Media Managment (with
respect to labeling) is only responsible on new (blank) tapes. So it would not matter in this case.
