Starting to accumulate lots of old cross-connect, CAT3 and CAT5 cabling from various clean-up projects, etc. What's the going rate per pound in the US for unprocessed scrap (in other words with the insulation still on it).

Thanks.

It was definitely worth collecting a couple years ago in FL. A garbage bag full of cat 5 scraps would get us around $75. If people are still getting electrocuted trying to dig up live wires to steal it's probably still paying good!

here is a trick for you. a lot of scrap yards will send some one out front to inspect the load and give you a price per pound based on current rates and estimated copper content. the rate can change daily.
If you have any larger cables (25pr and above) put them on top and cut the ends at a 45 degree angle so that more copper is exposed and have the ends visible. they will give you a higher rate than if you have jump wire and cat 3 and 5 on top because they will believe the copper content is higher.
