Recurring vs Pending...

I am confused. I am using Crystal Enterprise 9 and in order to run a report quarterly I schedule the report to run on say March 31st and to run every N months (3 months). After I schedule the report sometimes the status says Recurring, sometimes the status is Pending. What makes the report recurring vs pending. It doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks in advance..
