Recurring erroneous date/time stamps

Some of my clients have noticed that when they send an email, ocassionally, the date stamp that it was sent will be June 16, 2000. Always this same date. It doesn't happen very often but it is always this same date. For legal reasons, the date stamp is very important in all instances concerning email. Can anyone help me explain how this could happen? Thanks
