Greetings:

I have been asked to recreate a multi-page MS-Word form in Crystal. Data will be input into our database using other means. I need to report it out using Crystal exactly as it would appear if typed into the blank MS-Word form.

I wonder if anyone could give me some general suggestions re: going about this, particularly as to sizing and placing checkboxes ... beyond doing it all from scratch.

Thanks in advance for any tips,
Brad

Be aware that Crystal does not have Word's detailed control of text.

Be aware that a report that looks just as you want it on the screen may come out different on the printer.

Use lots of sections.

Use line skip - Chr(13) - to force line breaks.

If you've got Crystal 10, 'Lock Position and Size' is a useful field-format option once you've got something lined up as you want it.

Likewise 'Extend to Bottom of Section when Printing' can be used for lines, to get them aligned. It can also be used for boxes. You'll see the results on Preview.

It always helps to give your Crystal version

Thanks for the tips. Sorry I forgot to give my Crystal version number. I knew better!

You can bring a bitmap picture of the form into the page header section of the report. Then, in the section formatting options, turn on the option to Underlay Following Sections.

This allows you to either recreate the form and then remove the image, or use the image as the form and just place the database fields precisely where you want them.
