Hi,

I have been testing for disaster, and have so far recreated our PDC, and Legato Backup server. I am now trying to recreate the exchange box. I have my base NT build with same size drives, machine name, IP, site name, servie packs, hot fix etc.. Networker 6.01, NT4.0,EXCH mod 2.0

I am installing Exchange using setup /R, and the service packs, and a hot fix update with the /R switch. When I am ready to perform the restore or the IS-DS, I get an error stating theat the legato backup server cant be seen or the service that is trying to be restored is not started.
The services do not get started due to the /R function.

Has anyone been able to do a complete restore of there exchange box ?

I tried installing exchange w/ out the /R, but I was only able to restore the IS, not the DS .
Thank you for your time,
Mike

I have recovered our primary Private Information Store Exchange server following a crash which corrupted the IS.

I performed a full recovery of both the IS and DS to a standby server using the same server name, IP, organisation and site etc. The Exchange installation on the standby server was installed without using switches. I found that after the recovery I had to run the Exchange database tools to bring the services back up correctly and also had to bring the the directory service back into operation by incrementing the update sequence numbers between the servers in my site.

If you are still having trouble double check that you have
fully recreated the security context of the live system on your recovery system, i.e. services must be started using exactly the same security context.

Hope this helps, it can be done.

Thanks CLiff,

Yes, I have checked my services, and recreated our exchange box exactly as before.

I have succefully restored IS-DS, but MTA will not start.

Can you tell me which exchange database tools i might have to run specificaly. I would like to finish this project and have it completely documented by weeks end ?

Can I contact you by email ? My email is mike@newmediary.com

Thanks CLiff
