I did a dumb thing, and a smart thing..I loaded outlook from office 97, in order to get spell ck in OE6, only to find out that Outlook took over Outlook express when I clicked email. So, I uninstalled outlook and shared files, only to find I no longer have Outlook Express at all!!Dumb!
However, I backed up(not ghosted)my entire C drive 8 hours before this happened on external hd... Smart. Do I just paste the outlook Express folder's contents back into outlook, and address book into address book. Reload OE6, restore my 4 identities, then "import"? Or, hopefully, there is an easier way?? I have Win XP home.

Glad to hear that you have a backup, but it might be a pain to restore everything. Start by reinstalling/repairing OE.

What operating system are you using? If you are using something other than Windows XP, look in Add/Remove programs. If there's nothing specific for OE, do a repair of IE.

If you are using XP, a system restore might be the better way to go.

Thanks, I have winxp home. Did you say, if I have win xp I could repair in control panel, change/remove, or should I try restore(that will not take out anything else?? or is that "recovery??, I aways get confused by it). Appreciate your input.

When did this happen? If not too long ago, try using xp's System Restore to go back before this happened. Start, All Programs, Accessories, Sytem Tools, System Restore.

Welll...I took your advice. Did the "restore" from my SimpleTech program "storagesynch" then went into the control panel, "add or remove windows components", chose Outlook Express, found it in my accessories, opened it, made it my default mail client, and EVERYTHING CAME BACK!!! Horayyy!! Thank you very much! I did not have to do a XP restore. It is so great to have such learned folks to help us out!! This forum ROCKS!!
