Recovery from failed SQL2000 update to SQL7 - How?

Hi All,

I had some problems using ADO in ASP scripts running on SQL Svr 7 over Win2000 Adv Svr SP4, which is up-to-date with Windows Update patches. I decided to upgrade to SQL Svr 2000. Unfortunately, I stupidly elected to upgrade ver. 7 directly rather than installing a named version of ver. 2000. The symptom was something like Script #1 failed. I tried to uninstall, but that failed, too.

Is there any info on how I can uninstall Sql Svr manually, in particular all the relevant Registry entries. Or are them some other steps I can take to recover my ver. 7 installation?

TIA,
Richard

I forgot to mention that I can still run Enterprise Manager but can no longer connect to a SQL Server instance.

The most fundamental issue is that I can't even make a fresh installation of a named instance of SQL Server 2000, because the setup software forces me to either update the current installation, which fails, or cancel.

If I could delete whatever the setup software references in determining there's an existing instance, I could then probably install a new instance successfully. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Problem solved. I just deleted SQL Sever's registry entry (copying it to a .reg file) and an MSSQL7 folder (which may not have been necessary). Then reinstallation worked smoothly.
