It's been over 6 years since i took care of an Oracle DBase. Sites like this and Oracles Metalink are a great help.

Symptoms, backup died in process and crashed database. got an ORA-01113 and ORA-01110 error msg. Got it back up. but wanted to know if you could share your steps/procedure for recovering from this kind of error. please be explicit (mounting what, how, with what (sql plus, etc) )

Thanks!

ML,

Welcome to Tek-Tips.

As you error message descriptions indicate, you have (one or more) files that need recovery before your database is in a state that can continue to function. The fact that you were backing up your database at the time of failure may complicate matters since you will need 1) an intact backedup copy of the file(s) that needs recovery and 2) an unbroken chain of all redo log files (both archived and on-line) that your instance has generated since date and time of the file backup.

Given those two (sets of) components, you then do the following:

1) Shutdown your database.
2) Copy a backedup copy of the file(s) that Oracle indicates need recovery, over the top of the existing (bad) database file(s).
3) "STARTUP MOUNT"
4) "RECOVER DATABASE"
5) "ALTER DATABASE OPEN;"

Let us know if this sequence of events gets you back up and running.
