I haven't even thought about doing this in more years than I care to count and don't remember what software packages are capable of recovering files from a drive that has been formatted. I have a 120GB USB2.0 Seagate drive that I copied all my files to including all the projects I was currently working on. I was going to reformat the rest of the system and re-install windows XP professional, but like an idiot I deleted the partition on the 120GB in the process. I forgot that I had not shut it off and went down my list of drives deleting partitions. I reformatted the drive in NTFS in attempts to get one software package to work which ended ultimately in complete failure. Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appriciated.

Best program ever (there is on program I am more content with): GetDataBack. It exists in a FAT and a NTFS version. Google and thou shalt find their homepage.

It saved 100s of GBs for me.

Peace,

Yellow

This should help you. Try Runtime software "GetDataBack". I am not sure if there is a free version available. But basically as long as the drive spins up and is not overwriten you will get most, if not all your files back. I used the program on a drive which the bios could not see anymore and fdisk or other utilities did not regognise either. Anyway I could get all my data back, then filled the drive with zero and fdisk'd it. I could then reformat the drive normally. It is still working after more then one year in non critical applications. Regards and good luck.
