I think I already know the answer to this one, but does anyone know of a way to recover mail deleted from the delete items folder without using the Tools recover deleted mail option?
My lovely wife is sending and receiving mail from her boyfriend on my pc, and then deleting them from the deleted items folder. As I am with freeserve, they do not store mail on the server once they have been downloaded.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Go to microsoft.com and search their knowledge base for article 246153. It will give you details on how to recover hard deleted items. If that doesn't work why don't you create a rule to forward a copy of all emails received to a different account? It will work until she figures it out.

Many thanx, I've set up a rule for both send and receive, but there haven't been any mails since (yesterday). She won't work it out, she's not complit!

Having had a look, it seems like the server needs to hold a copy of the mail for this fix, what I was thinking of was some way of recovery from the local machine

Lost folders in Outlook 98 :-

I have a user who stored all messages in sub folders within the deleted items folder (foolhardy I know but he has learned the hard way...).

Somehow all of these folders have been deleted, although the user swears blind he didn't delete them. There are still messages in the root of the deleted items folder so it clearly hasn't been totally emptied.
The size of the .pst file (which I have made a backup of) is 14 mb and the total size of all the messages is only 4.5 mb.

I have tried corrupting the .pst file and then running scanpst on it this returns that there are 16 folders and 222 items (as there are 177 messages & contact etc this seems right). When I open the pst file there are no subfolders under any of the standard folders, only inbox, sent items and deleted items mail folders exist.

I have also tried Search and Recovery 1.0b but none of the deleted folders are visible.

Is there anything else anyone could recommend?

Many thanks.

Sorry :(
Please ignore above reply - I have posted as a nerw thread

You're talking about Outlook in Internet Only mode, right, downloading via pop3? If so, just change the settings on the account so that it doesn't delete the email it downloads, but leaves it in the pop3 mailbox. Then you can look via webmail (if your ISP has this feature), or download them to another email client.

This won't work for email she's sending, though.

I have a better idea for you. why not install a keyboard capture tool. you can find some free ones on the internet. it records every keystroke and creates a text file/log file with the keystrokes. so you can read anything that is typed. I had to do this to catch my wife who was emailing and instant messaging her boyfriend.
