Hi guys,

I was setting up soltice (now volume manager) in solaris 9

I set up all the mirrors fine, I went to modify the the vfstab file to reflect the new slice references.
I.E.

/dev/md/rdsk/d0
/dev/md/rdsk/d1
/dev/md/rdsk/d2

I rebooted the box and suprise suprise, it can't find the /usr partition or any commands.

I loaded the cd and booted to single user mode, modified the file and the system paniced and crashed. So I did it again and copied the file, made all the chages, and then copied the file over top of the old one, the system paniced again and crashed. It now comes up with "type control D to continue or root password for system maintence" If i do control D it goes back to the same screen, if I log in no commands work except pwd and cd. Its a v120 so there is no keyboard (stop A) to drop it to "ok" prompt. It does have lom but I can't remember how to activte the lom.

Help ! I can't even rebuild the system at this stage as I can't get to the ok prompt...

Any help much appreciated!!!

bigdaddy,

First off, without a keyboard the stop sequence from the console or laptop is <control>-<break>. The break key is located above the zero on a key board. This should at least help you rebuild the machine if necessary.

When using metatool/disksuite the vfstab is edited by that program when you reboot, so manually intervention is not required. In your case you should be able to boot off of the cdrom in single user mode:

ok boot cdrom -s

After bootup, simply mount the partition you are using for root to /a and repair the /etc/vfstab file.

If you need more steps please respond and I'll help anyway that I can.

Good luck

Thanks dude I will try that now... I rebooted it and it didn't change the vfstab file, i had to do that manually??

The only entry disksuite enters automatically in vfstab is for the root mirror( that is once you have issued metaroot d? ) If you mirror any other slice you will have to manually add an entry to vfstab.

You can use blaine's key sequence to go to the OBP and set output to the LOM

depending on what system you use to get to the serial console (Cisco 25xx, microANNEX, PC/Laptop, Wyse) the break signal is different, lookup the paperdocumentation or google for the shortcut...

if you manage to go to the ok Prompt just procede like here

Best Regards, Franz
