We upgraded one of our server's hdd's from 18gig to 72gig. When we upgraded the hdd's, we installed windows and the HBA's drivers. Then we restored the SYSTEM STATE, SYSTEM DB and SYSTEM FILES.

After that we restarted the server and it gave a blue screen: inaccessible boot device.

Can anyone advice me how to restore the whole machine

Look at you boot.ini file - the entry obviously point to
the wrong partition. This may happen if you still have
changed your SCSI/IDE controller or HDD configuration.

Your experience is exactly why Microsoft does not support restoring the system files to a machine with different hardware. And since Microsoft does not support it, then Legato cannot support such a recovery either.

Now, as 605, sggested, yu can hack the startup files so that you update it with the new h/w configuration, but that's your responsibility if it works or now.

Hi,

I have the same experience an wallace88. Forget to restore Microsofts OS on a different HW.
With any other OS it works fine but not with Microsoft.

Have a nice day

Hi,
You should install the OS (before th restore) on alternate folder (not WINNT!!!), so when you're restoring there won't be any conflict with "open files", and when rebooting, you should make sure that the boot.ini file direct to the right location.
