Hi,

I was exploring the new G5 Panther and trying to drag the lock icon on the keychain window to the tool bar on the screen to make an alias there. When I released the mouse button, the icon went "puff" and diseappeared. How can I recover the icon to put it back on the keychain window? Thank you very much.

Can you give a little more details?

I think you might be satisfied with this: open KeyChain Access (in your Utilities folder), under the 'View' menu, select 'Show Status in Menu Bar'.

'Menu Bar', by the way, is the more correct term for the strip of stuff across the top of the entire screen.

'ToolBar' is the term for the top of each window, where the Red, Yellow and Green buttons live. Generally, you customize the ToolBar under the 'View' menu of most applications.

Please post if this fixed the issue, or post more details and I'll try again.

Thanks and good luck.

Hi kertusa,

Thank you for your tip. Though, I just learned an easier way from you to show the lock icon on the menu bar, it still can't recover the lock that I took out of the Keychain Access window. It's not on the toolbar where the Red, Yellow, and Green buttons are located but right below it. This bar has the Password, Notes, Delete, Go, Lock, and Keychains icons, and it was the Lock icon that I tried to drag out. Hope this is clear enough. Thanks again.

Got it.

That is the ToolBar. Try this: in Keychain Access, go under the 'View' menu, select 'Customize Toolbar...'

A 'sheet' will slide down from the bottom edge of the toolbar showing you all the different widgets available for the toolbar.

Grab the collection towards the bottom, under the phrase "or drag the default set". Drag that collection directly into the toolbar. You should see a green + when your mouse is about to drop the default set on the toolbar. Release the button and you get your default toolbar back.

Hope that helped.

Customize Toolbar" isn't available under View.

Got it. Right-click or control+click on the blank of the toolbar and select "Customize Toolbar".
