Recover Root Password

Hi Guys,
When trying to recover the root password
i was unable to create a temp dir!
this is what i did.
1)boot cdrom -s
2)mkdir /a
the second step failed as i had booted from
cdrom.
Please tell me how can i mount the /etc
filesystem?

The a directory already exists. Just do a mount.

You mount c?t?d?s0 to /a
You don't make the directory.

You can not "make" a directory you are booting off a read-only cd-rom. You can also use the /mnt point as well...
