First I would ask how valuable the data is. If its worth less than x$'s then I would suggest Ontrack data recovery software. If its worth more than x$ then I would leave it up to the pro's like ECO Electronics. They are not as much as Ontrack and net the same results.
Yes, the question is always how valuable is your data. Recovering data off a hard is very time intensive. You mentioned a two drive system, iis it raid 0, or raid 1?
As with the previous response, the utilities from Ontrack are good, however, caution should be taken as data recovery is NOT point and click. The best suggestion is to have a professional look at the drives and determine is the data is recoverable or not, the problem(s) could be logical and/or physical or both.
Have the drives evaluated, first.
