recover or undelete from CampactFlash card?

I had a 512 CompactFlash card with many photos on it. I copied them onto my slave drive so they would be safe, and deleted the files from the card. Within weeks, the slave crashed. I have only taken about a dozen new photos on the card since I erased the files. Are they recoverable since my drive crashed? What should I try?
