Recover FAT drive

I'm trying to recover some data off of a FAT32 drive by slaving it to my PC. Of course my drive is formatted NTFS and it sees the drive, but I can't access it. I've tried a couple of demo programs that see the data fine, but want a zillion bucks to copy it. I'm doing this as a favor for a non profit group, is there any sofware/utility I can use to copy this on to my local drive?
Any help would be appreciated!

BTW: With knoppix, yuo may be better off copying the data off to CD or a networked machine rather than trying to write to an NTFS system. Although it should be fine, I'd personally rather not risk it.
