Does anyone else have problems with recovers returning the following error on some files:

media emergency: Bad or missing record: save set ID 2931401985, low water mark 323005312, current offset 322986264

Legato says this is a known bug and it does have a workaround, but the workaround is deleting the media and index entries for a volume, then running a four to five hour scan to reenter the data from the tape. This is unacceptable given that I have encountered it FOUR times in the last three days on different files. If anyone else has this issue, we need to get some pressure on Legato to get it fixed ASAP. If not, I have some long days ahead of me.

That looks like an error I had with 6.0.1. It turns out that the problem was with nsrmmd writting the data to the index incorrectly.

There is a fix for this problem in 6.0.1 6.0.2 and 6.1, but it won't be available publicly until December.

The fix comes with a new nsrmmd that prevents the problem from happening and a new scanner that will better read tapes that already have the problem.

If you are running Solaris and have support with Sun, send me your e-mail and I'll send you a case number to refer to, and they might be able to get the fix to you.

It's actually writing it to the media database incorrectly, which is why an nsrck won't fix it. Unfortunately, this is Networker 6.1 on NT4. My only support is thru Legato. The workaround they gave me works, but is extremely time consuming.
