Can somebody clarify the following for me.

Say there is a public folder called Pub1 and a user mailbox named User1. An email comes into User1's mail box. User1 then moves the email to the Pub1 public folder. Another user, say User2, who has deletion rights on the Pub1 folder deletes that email.

If I wanted to recover that deleted email, would I have to logon as the user who deleted the email and recover from their inbox (ie User1), or should I be able to highlight the Pub1 folder and recover from there?

Many thanks in advance

I believe neither of them will work. Recover deleted items only works on the private store, not the public.

But I'm going to test that.

In Exchange 2000, the Administrator/Owner can use the Recover Deleted Items feature within Outlook. It works for me on the various folders we have (Calendar, Contacts).

However, it will only keep the deleted items per your retention policies.

Calendar, contacts etc are in the private store not public.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Click on the public folder.
Then, Tools->Recover deleted items.

You will need to have turned this retention on at the exchange end.
