Is it possible to recover sites and information that was deleted by the user so that I may see specific pages that were viewed? thanks

possibly, do a google on index.dat suite, the group is something like ur it group that wrote the program.

The temp files are not recoverable. Even after deleting history, the index.dat file still contains a record of pages visited, that the tool bcastner pointed to will be able to view. You will actually have to visit the sites to see what they are, and if any involve logins, you are out of luck.

Just take into consideration any privacy issue or policy that your company may have concerning this type of action.

For future reference I would recommend a decent logging proxy server. Then you can hive the logs off somewhere else for analysis.

BFOJ is right - you should have an explicit policy for this. In some instances if you don't tell people they shouldn't do things you may be implicitly condoning their surfing habits. It's much simpler to draw up a reasonable acceptable use policy for your users and to tell them that ALL surfing is monitored. Generally that keeps them on their toes.

If you want to be really nasty you can collect their web caches every night :) Now, that's fun sometimes!

BFOJ is 100% correct on this. If you're going to be using the information collected from this action in any form of disciplinary method, have a solid internet policy in place that all users have signed off on (one that notes, that information is being collected and can be used against them).

If this is not in place they can go to the labor board and file a complaint....and win for unfair practices.

Thank you all for your input, and just last week we implemented a very strong e-policy which all associates had to sign if they wish to use our electronics. They have in fact given up all privacy when it comes to the computers, but it is not for that at all. A user regularly cleans her history, which I have asked her to do, she however can not remember where she saw certain information pertaining to the company. I was hoping to get a list of the sites she visited to go over with her. Again, I appreciate all of your input, and will look to better log our activity. For that you all get stars...again, thanks!
