I've got a form which contains a text box field that calculates a value based on the values in two other fields in that same table. When data entering values into the form, the calculated value appears on the form. However, this calculated value is not being written to the table.

What have I missed?

Hi!

The text box will not automatically write the value to the table unless it is bound to a field on the table and, since this text box calculates the value, it probably isn't bound. But, this is a good thing since a calculated value shouldn't be stored in the table anyway. You can calculate the value anytime you need it for a report, query etc.

What would be your recommended way to update this value. Make Table query to a Update query?

Hi!

The calculated value will automatically be updated. Anytime the form is used the textbox will use the most recent values to calculate with. The same is true if you use the calculation in a query or a report. Whatever the fields hold which the calculation refers to will be used for the calculation. That is the best thing about using a calculated field, its information is always as updated as it can be. That is also why the value isn't and shouldn't be stored.
