Record the Email

I have an executabl file written in Visual Basic, which gets the data from the database and send emails to the registered users. Now my client want me to record who all received it, who all opened it and who all deleted it. Any clue as to how to do it. Please help me in this.

As far as I know, not all email systems will provide this type of functionality for you to report back. I belive outlook does internally but if you email someone at yahoo, hotmail, excite, or some other linux/unix based or other email system provider I am not sure you will be able to get all the information that you want. Now with all that said in outlook I belive it is the option of notify or is it return reciept (or is that the post office? ).

It seems there is a system that can read the status of the email. I got an idea as to insert an image in the html tag with the url of the website and and in the website i can track the users details. but how to get the details of the people who have deleted it without reading or who havent recieved it.

For those who have not recieved it you should get a undeliverable error in the from account (if you have it set up).
