Hi,
I have 4 fields int he report. accno, category, agency, date. I have groups on both category and agency. Now In the details I have accno and date. Is there a way that I could display only those records where date is maximum of all the dates in that particular group.

Thanks,
M

category mis my group1
agency is my group2

in the details of each set of group I want the records to be displayed if the date in that particular set is maximum for that record.

Groups are nested. I'll assume you mean you want to see the maximum per group #2. Go to report->selection formula->GROUP and enter:

{table.date} = maximum({table.date},{table.agency})

If you need to do calculations across groups you will then need to use running totals, since non-group selected records will still contribute to the more usual inserted summaries.

Thanks LB it did work I was using the Maximum but did not know where it has to placed. Now it is perfect.

-----since non-group selected records will still contribute to the more usual inserted summaries.

I did not understand the above statement though.

Thanks,
M

Group selection changes what is displayed, but the records that are not displayed, but which meet the criteria of the record selection formula (selection formula->record), are still in the report and affect calculations. Running totals will ignore the non-group selected records and just calculate based on those displayed.
