Record number NOT including suppressed

I've got a simple report that suppresses the details section based on certain criteria. I would like a count of all the records that are not suppressed. A count (or distinctcount) or the ready-made record number field only count ALL of the records (suppressed and not).

Create a Running Total and place a NOT(the same criteria used to suppress) in the evaluate use a formula area.

Or you can do what many here do and create a formula to do the same:

If NOT(the same criteria used to suppress) then
1
else
0

Now you can do an insert->sum on this.

Instead of suppressing the detail records conditionally, why don't you put that criteria in a record selection formula to exclude them from the report entirely?

Both options work. dgillz, I tried your method first, but had trouble with the results so I went with the suppression. I went back and worked it out so that's what I used. synapsevampire, thanks for your input, it'll come in handy down the road I'm sure.

Ahhh, I didn't realize you weren't familiar with using the record selection criteria, that's definitely the way to go, it eliminates the rows from the report and is obviously faster.

Often times people are suppressing rows, for part of a report, but using them elsewhere, which is what I assumed you were doing.
