Record Locking on File Share - HELP please

Hello;
I have an Access 2003 database used on XP that has a SQL server 2000 backend.

I want to put the front end on a file server, but when I do my users are not able to save edits and sometimes second or third users are locked out by ADMIN (the first person who logs into the front end).

When I put the front end db's on each of the users local machines there is not a problem with editing and sharing the db, but this is a pain in terms of maintenance.

The front end has no record locking and is shared.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem.

give each user his/her own copy of the front end, and live with the maintanence. This is how the whole back/front end thing is supposed to work.

I suppose you could just remove any code that requires design changes/saves to front end and then supress any error warnings but this isn't a good solution.

As for maintanence, there are various things you could do to reduce it, e.g. have an automatic update script to update the front ends and roll out new versions easily...
