record level locking notification message box

I have a complex form with 4 subforms on it all set to record level locking (Access 2000). When a second user attempts to edit a record that is being edited by another user access beeps (as it should) but I would like to display a message box explaining that the record cannot be edited right now. I tried trapping error 3218 on each form's error event but this is not working. Any help would be appreciated.
