Record Creator being reassigned

This one is a bit odd. One of our database users has had all of the records that she has created changed so that the record creator is now one of our actual contacts. Her user information has been changed so that the contact name is not showing the name of the user but the name of the contact and for some reason I am unable to edit the contact name. Tech support told me that they had never seen this before and their best advice was to reindex the database. Well this did not work, surprise surprise,. How can I reassign the record creator for the contacts that are incorrect?
 
The name will be the name of the contact in her User Record... ie log in as the user and Lookup | My record.

It's possible that the user has changed the name there instead of creating a new record for a new contact

I logged in as the user and did the Lookup|My record and yes it reflects the actual contacts information. So how can I fix this? I don't tell by Changing the Contact information because I have already tried that and it doesn't work.
 
Are you referring to the Record Creator or Record Manager field?

The Creator should be able to be changed once the contact has been added
