Hello There!

We are a small company around 100 employees, our support contract will end now of our existing scanner kaspersky. this scanner detects very greatfull viruses but sometimes it slows down the server a lot. so maybe it is time to change to a different scanner. when i was working in a different company we used inoculan, this was also a very good scanner.

but what think different administrator to this topic.

we want to clean nt and 2000 servers, exchange mail ....

has anyone any suggestions ?

thanks in advance

greetings joe

You could try NetShield or Trend. I have used both and they are pretty good. One of the things to be careful about is what is scanned and when. There are loads of differing opinions out there about scanning strategies and I am going to put mine now!

File Servers - On Access Scan and maybe File I/O. Definitiely do a nightly scheduled scan if possible.
Exchange - File I/O and possibly On Access Scan. Nightly if possible.
SQL Servers - File I/O and Nightly. No On-Access as it slows the server down normally - maybe exclude certain areas?
IIS - On-Access but exclude the web-sites. Don't do File I/O unless you accept files in. Install Tripwire for better management maybe.

My 2 cents.

IMHO, I would definitely give Sophos a try. They have a variety of products that will work and work very well. Plus their support is second to none.

Hi

Thanks for suggestions, i just found a very good test about server scanners, yes netshield looks pretty good, kaspersky has the problem in my point of view that you find very less in groups about it, if you search for problems about other programms you find much more, i think this is also a point which should be considered. I always like Knowledgebases to try to find as much as possible by my own, but i didn't found a KB.

have a look at this site

Another plug for SOPHOS. It simply works.

Part of its reputation is its efficient use of system resources and not causing problems on installed systems.

You don't see much about it on support boards because...it works and doesn't break things.

Simply contact a rep from their website, tell 'em what you want to protect, and they'll quote you a price. One of the easiest software purchases I have ever made.
