We are currently running Networker on a Ultar Sparc connected to an Adic 218M Jukebox. We are looking to replace our current jukebox with another from Ebay. I don't plan on replacing tapes so I will be looking at DLT 7000 drives.

Any recommendations on Performance and Quality would be appreciated.

We are using Networker on an Sun Enterprise E4500 together with 9310 Silos from STK and 9840 drives. Drives are connected via FC, Jukebox is connected via TCP/IP.

The jukebox is very reliable - no problems at all
The drivers and tapes are very reliable too - and fast

but, they are at the top end of the price range :-(

Well good things ain't cheap

2 small silo/jukeboxes which we have never had any issues with are compaq tl892's and also scaler 100's

the tl892's are usually dual tz89 drives with 10 slots (same as DLT's)

Scaler 100's (with scaler 1000 firmware), excellent little silo's, with 50 (or 60 max i think) slots and around 6 DLT drives.

I think ADIC have a smaller jukebox called a faststor which range from 7 slots to 22, and have 1 or 2 DLT drives....

Hello,

one thing to mention. DLT7000 are going to the end of lifecycle - they will not be supportet in the near future. Try upgrading to SDLT or DLT8000 which can at least read the old tapes. Not sure if they can write.

Else I can say as mentioned above - STK is rock solid reliable (at least the big ones) Only the DLT7000 in our old Jukebox are giving us trouble.

If I were you and somehow could manage to get new tapes I would leave the DLTs. Have a look at

I agree with Johanes, get away from DLT's they are at end of life. We are using a small STK L40 and I used have a STK 97110 with 4 DLT drives. I per the STK L700 and LTO actually!
