Hi!

I've had essentially no experience with AutoCAD before now, and I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.

I have a new client who runs AutoCAD 2002 (no idea about service pack or patches) and I'm trying to find recommendations about optimal system configuration.

We may be replacing their PCs shortly, and I'd like some expert advice on the best config.

Which factors affect performance the most? CPU? More RAM? High-end video card? Bigger cache? Win2000 vs XP Pro? The customer wants the new systems to be ultra-stable and better performing (currently using old Compaq PII, 256mb RAM, Win98).

Thanks! Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would...
- move to WIN2K (much more stable)
- run at a minimum 512 RAM
- jump to a P4 CPU if you can
- get a graphics card like an Quadro XGL

I think your biggest gains would be going from P2 to P4 and the graphics card. I do not even know if you can run well with ACAD2002 on a WIN98 machine. Oh, lets face it, you need it all. With the price of computers now, you would get your investment back pretty quick with a more powerful computer. My 2 cents..
