Surely my needs will not seem to require at all an expensive device, though it's been decided (not me) to go ahead with the Cisco PIX firewall.

Any suggestions on what model to pick up? My network has 80hosts, 2 Ip's are to be protected (servers), T1 Internet access. The firewall is required to split 2 segments (LAN/servers),support 80 concurrent sessions, 2Mbps throughput and High Availability.

thank you!

This PIX is a awsome choice!

506(10u),506(50u), 506, 515R, 515UR, 525, 535

well 501 is out of the question because it will only support 10 and 50 connections

the 506 will support unlimited connections but has a limitation on VPN Tunnels

i would look at eather a 506 if will fit your needs

or a 515 model (515 is upgradeable!)

the 515 is the first PIX model that supports Fail over as well

Take a look at the cisco PIX page to get a better idea of the PIX Specs to better gauge your needs

Good luck!

BTW you can contact a cisco REP in your area and he will get you intouch with a PIX engeneer who can help you further as well

You mentioned high availability, which usually means some sort of hot standby setup. If so, then the 515-unrestricted unit and a second 515-failover unit are the lowest option you can go. 506s and 501s do not support hot failover.

Thank you all for your comments!!!

cool pointers !! way to go.

best regards,
