I am starting out with Paradox 11 for the first time. Can anyone tell me whether the book "Developing Paradox Databases: An Object-Oriented Approach: An In-Depth Guide to Developing Dynamic Databases With Paradox for Windows
by Gary Entsminger" or the book "Paradox for Windows Power Programming/Book and Disk (Advanced Programmer's Survival Guide)by Que Development, Vince Kellen, Jennifer Lindsay, Dana Greav" are any good? Or do you know of any others that are particulary good. I will be making relatively simple databases, but will probably want to customize them quite a bit. It's my understanding that the basic functions are the same back to about version 7, so I don't mind using an older book if it is still applicable.

Thanks

I have "Paradox for Windows Power Programming" and am not crazy about it, I'd suggest you go to your big chain bookstore like Borders or B&N and buy a couple of books and return the one you don't like.

JonesClan,

Given the choice between the two, I'd probably opt for Entsminger's book rather than the Power Programming title. While the latter contains some terribly useful information, much of it is targeted for those who've already had a taste of ObjectPAL.

I would suggest trying to locate a copy of Rich Wagner's "Inside Paradox for Windows" for a good introduction to the actual product. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I should mention that I wrote several chapters of it, but I was also very pleased with the way the query and the DLL chapters turned out.)

I see that several copies are available from simply type the title in the Title box and then search.

Granted, it doesn't show all of the gadgets and tools that were added to later versions of the product, but it does provide a good foundation to build upon.

Hope this helps...
