I am looking to install a firewall and wondered what the best would be.

We only have a small 20 user network with a gateway to the internet through the internet server. All i really want to do is block attacks from outside. I already have Virus scanning on the server. Some users may need to dial in though so it would need to allow this.

I dont want to go spending a lot if its not necessary.

Can anyone recomend a decent, not too expensive firewall.

Thanks
Dan

Zone Alarm has a free version and it's one of the best free or not. Tiny is also free and it too is one of the best. In my opinion you can pretty much ignore all the others whether they're free or not. Try Zone Alarm.

Here's Steve Gibson's firewall scoreboard if you'd like to look:

Thanks for your responses. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, ive been away.

I'll follow the suggestions up.

Thanks

If you have an older Pentium-II machine available, you could install Smoothwall (smoothwall.org), a linux-based firewall that has a nice GUI for administration. They sell add-ins for VPN (for your remote users).

Thanks
I've downloaded and am trialling zone alarm and i'll see how that goes. I was informed that software firewalls were not good and i should steer clear. however, this seems to be doing okay and has blocked a number of attacks already.
