Hello all,

I see that there are a ton of software out there. I know not the best. Since I got a new had disk for myself. I ws thinking if you guys can pour out a few advices on what is best:

Antivirus: Norton
Internet security: Adaware SE pro,...........any other?
CD/DVD burning software: Nero, Blindwrite.............?????
Codecs for Windows Media Player: ??????
Heard that Div X comes along with some adware. IS there an alternative?

Please feel free to recommend other softwares and a word about them.

Thanks
Kumar

I use AVG from Grisoft and find it to be very reliable. I also use ad-aware, Spybot Search and destroy and Spyblaster. You really need to kick all 3 current with regular updates and runt them. I use zone alarm for my firewall and haven't had any problems. I'm running XP Pro, all of these have been running w/o any problems. All of them have a free version of their product, you can just use the free version for personal use or try it out and see if you like them.
For burning cd's and dvd's I now use CDBurner XP Pro, I had used Nero and Easy CD create, I didn't have any problems burning cd's but I could never get a dvd to burn correctly, once I tried CDBurner XP Pro, I had no problems burning a dvd and readng it back.

My honest answer is that you use more than one:

. an active Antivirus scanner, you mentioned several good ones as did FWPIII in recommending AVG;

. But the job is not done with an AV scanner alone. See the advice here:
