At a previous gig, I used some nice software to create a copy of my disk every night. It was a freebie teaser version of a backup product.

Every night, it would only copy the files that had changed the previous day.

It was free software. I cannot remember the name of it. Can someone suggest the name? It was windows specific. I'm having trouble using unison because it does not understand windows specific constraints and quirks of backingup files and directories like "/Documents and Settings" (users.dat needs to be closed for unison to back it up) and "/Inetpub".
Thanks!

In addition to SyncBack, I would also recommend DriveImage. You can create a bootable disk (via BARTPE, et. al.) and use this free software as "ghosting" software. I actually use both.

Being paranoid is a prerequisite for IT. ;-)

I use Acronis True image - apart from allowing file back ups it allows you to clone all of your drive to another. Thus I have, in effect 2 Drive C's which are on removable caddies which means if the first drive fails I can just slot the other in as a new Drive C with the full OS, other programmes and all data files.

You can also create a hidden and protected total sustem resore parttion file which you can use to restore the system if it is just a software failure rather than a hardware failure.

I luv Acronis too because it is full of features and it dead simple to use. I highly recommend it to anyone.

My only (minor) gripe is that I wish they would bundle it with the Disk Director suite so that everything was in one package.

But both work really well and represent good value.
