Recommend Date Type and Size for Email Template

Good Morning,

We will be saving emails to be used as templates in a sql 2k database table. I could use a recommendation; should I use text or varchar and what size? The approximate size of the emails are about 2,000 characters including white space.

Use varchar(2500) if you're absolutely sure that your maximum template never exceeds 2000 and you don't need to handle unicode.

When you move to SQL Server 2005 and up, you would be able to switch to varchar(max) to not care about maximum size at all.
