In my use of Map 3D 2005, it has repeatedly crashed unexpectedly, at first I could not plot to our HP 1055cm plotter at all. Units that we set up do not hold and you must set them up each time you open the drawing. The service packs have addressed some of the issues, but some issues remain and 2004 works much better. Anyone thinking of going to 2005 may want to rethink it and maybe wait until the next release. Seems to me every other release is bad, so with any luck the next release will be much better. I'm not impressed with 2005 even with it's new features. If the darn thing crashes, what good are the new features. I'm going back to 2004. Unless 2005 has features you can't live without, I would recommend staying with 2004, unless you want to have problems.

Thanks for the info, you've once again shown Autodesk's strange curse. As I understood it, Autodesk has two teams of programmers - one team does odd releases, the other team does even releases. Historically, the odd releases have more innovative in terms of features, and proposed functionality, but historically they have been horrible products unleashed on a hopeful public. The even team on the other hand, usually doesn't introduce major innovations, they just seem to fix the odd releases with a few new features thrown in.
