Hi
I'd love to have one of those tadpole laptops but with an average price of +$13000, it bit out of my budget.

However my second choice it to have a clone using a normal intel/amd based laptop.

Could any please tell me of any makes and models that would work perfectly with solaris.
I will probably be doing quit a bit of java stuff so a fast cpu is vital.
However I do not need all the extra features such as a dvd-rom drive, unless Sun have perfected the graphics chip drivers for accelerated video playback.

Also I do not want to pay a huge price tag, cuz end of the day I'm just running stuff like staroffice, forte java, xmms, internet browsing.

thanks for any ideas.

I think these days the only problem is the NIC, the graphics card if supported in Xfree86, then you can use it, even with XSun (using Xfree porting 4.0.3), i have a Compaq Armada E500 (the one that my employer allows me ...), and I have at the moment Solaris 8 10/01, with Xfree porting kit 4.0.3, and a 3Com EtherLink III, 3C589D, supported in Solaris with the pcmcia hack from xig software, usefull links:

Hope it helps,

Carlos Almeida
