The type of device depends on your users needs. I had a case the other day where the user has 3000 contacts. He had the 7730 but as it only has 16MB of memory it was full on the first sync, it had to be sent back and replaced with the 7290 which has 32MB. You need to analyze your users needs. If you can afford it go for a dedicated BES.
Good advice Chris, but the device selection almost has to come after choosing a service provider. To deploy 50 or so stable 7290's on to of a stinky service like Nextel will cause you a great deal of grief. Most devices Rim produces are duplicated to most of the service providers in the cellular market. But not all of them have the same network size, capacity, stabilty or global ( international service ) reach
If you plan on having more than 50 users on RIM devices, then I woupld propose using an in-house BES.
This way you can also allow for multiple service carriers/networks depending on what works best for your users.
What we did was go with 4 different suppliers accross Canada, since each region we had offices in had a particular carrier which stood out against the others.
