Does anyone know if it is possible for Citrix to recognize a USB Scanner connected locally to an HP Thin Client. We want to use a direct deposit application we received from our bank. We want to run the application on our Citrix Server and have our business office at a remote location run the application. The user has to scan checks into the application and the scanner, obviously needs to be local at their location. If anyone has any thoughts on this, please let me know.

Thanks.

Only if using a thin-client running XPe and either:

A. Using Remote-Scan

or

B. Citrix PS4 w/ TWAIN Redirection enabled

I have three clients running Citrix w/ Remote-Scan and it works great. They also use Citrix PS4, but the native TWAIN Redirection did not work well enough for production use.

Thanks Patrick. Can you describe your setup a little? Do you have a scanner directly attached to a thin client? Which thin client are you using. We tried to attach a TelleScan check scanner to a HP Thin Client. It was recognized as a USB device by XPe, but not as a scanner. I tried the remote-scan software. Thanks for that link. They are more than helpful. However, the scanner we need to use does not have a TWAIN driver so remote-scan does not recognize it

You have to install the scanner driver on the XPe Thin-Client. I have the following:

1. Xerox DocuMate 262 USB 2.0 connected to Wyse 9450XE XPe Thin-Clients

2. Ricoh IS450 SCSI connected to Win2K Workstation

Both are connecting via ICA Client 9.x

If you have a problem with Remote-Scan, their tech support is awesome, and they won't charge you $400 to call them like Citrix does.

The scanner support in with Citrix P4.0 is buggy at best. Even then, it only works with a small set of scanners; it is not even worth the time to set up. RemoteScan is the standard solution, and works with virtually every scanner make and model in existence, self configures, and also converts each scanner into a network scanner, even through Terminal Services or Citrix. Their web site is
We found that we could negotiate and get the price down fast with volume (20+) purchases. But other than it not being free, remotescan is the only way to go, no complaints.

I agree that remotescan is a great product. Their support is unbelieveable. However, nothing seems to work with what we need to do. Our setup involves a check scanner and some proprietary software from the bank. Neither support TWAIN which is a major stumbling block. Support at RemoteScan was more than helpful trying to get this to work, but even they agreed that check scanners are a different animal. The developers of the software were also looking into this, but I have not heard from them in weeks. It seems like this setup has to be on a local PC. Thanks for all the replies.

Agree. Remotescan supports TWAIN and WIA drivers, which means about 99% of the scanners out there. Maybe the manufacturer of the check scanner can come up with a TWAIN driver for their devices. Seems logical, since then they will be much more useful.

If you dont have to worry about security or cost, you could set up a PC, over a VPN perhaps, and use some kind of FTP script to transfer the scanned check images back to a shared directory on the server...

but I would try to beat up the scanner manufacturer again, they have to be able to build a twain driver... it is *not* that hard to do, and then it would work fine with remote scan as well as a zillion other stand alone scanner aps.
