I made a fatal mistake that cost me all of my data that I have been gathering over the years.
Here is what I did. I have secondary hard drive that I copy all of my documents to and keep all of my family pictures and music. I was trying to copy an image of my c:\ drive to a partition on c:\. Instead I copied the image on the secondary drive d:\ and it became a copy of c:\ and I lost everything. I was using Symantec Ghost do to the imaging. How can I get my data back on d:\ after it's been imaged? I appreciate any ideas.

Confused: what is now listed on c: and d:? You said you were trying to copy an image of c: to a partition on c:. Ghost will not allow an image to be placed on the same physical drive. Have you looked at the image record with the viewer in the ghost program?

Thanks micker,
Ghost allowed me to copy an image of c: on a partition of c:. Although the problem is, I copied that same image on a secondary drive d: by mistake and I lost all of my files. I am trying to get old d: files back if I can.

Strange, if there wasn't enough room for the image AND the original files, you should have gotten an "out of space" error. What is the size of the d: drive. You should have the original files and the ghost image. Hard drives make it difficult to overwrite an area without some kind of warning.

You would need a forensic utility suite to recover the data and then it would be fragmented. I don't think that you will be able to make a 100% recovery at all.

micker, I'm sure he restored a C: drive image onto his D: drive, hence his statement "it became a copy of c:\ and I lost everything".

Thanks Guys,
I am leaning toward using forensic software to be able to restore some of the files. I tried several recovery utilities, but no luck. I am going to suffer a lot for making such a fatal mistake.
