I have a PIX506 Version 5.2(3) which was used for a VPN pilot project before I joined the company and now want to use it elsewhere.

The problem is I don't know the external IP or current password. The original staff have left and I can find nothing written down.

I am aware of the Cisco password recovery procedure but you need the external IP to use it.

Is there a way to find the external IP, I have serial access to the PIX via the console port?

HI.

You don't need to know anything about the current configuration.

After you press Escape when the pix boots, it does not load any configuration. You can give it any temporary ip that you want that can access the TFTP server.
You can use either the inside or outside interface to connect to the tftp server - it does not matter, only temporary connection for the password recovery or OS upgrade.

Bye
