Hi there,
I have a few questions and I am relatively new to search engine optimization so i hope they are not stupid questions.
I am developing a form which people can fill in with their site details and request a link on our sites.
First I would like to verify that they have added our URL etc to their site(s)

1) Is there a simple way to automatically check if my link is on their site first? Without writing my own spider software :)

2) Is is possible to check the PageRank of their site from my "add your link" page/form?

Any information would be much appreciated.

I suppose you could ask them to submit the URL of the page where they've placed their link. It would be relatively straightforward to write a program to retrieve that page and search it for your link. Alternatively you could write, or acquire, a spider to search their whole site.

A quick search of found this product: which seems to do what you need, though it costs $50.

I don't think there's a legitimate way to automatically retrieve their page rank, it doesn't appear to be possible through the Google API.

try using Xenu link sleuth
You shouldn't link just for PR sake, it can and does get penalised. Excessive reciprocal linking is being penalised after the last Google update.
Link because it's useful to visitors and the sites are related.

For PR checking you can download the Google toolbar and use the approximate PR shown on there.
