Recieving and downloading attachments PHP

Well, i've been searching and getting frustrated with trying to create a function to download attachments in emails. Basically i am writing a webmail client and although everything was going ok, i'm stuck on how to deal with attachments. Does anyone one know where i can get info on how to do this?

I know that you have to search through the different body parts of a message,but what exactly do you look for? and how do you save it to your disk? I'm at my wits end, trying to figure it all out.

I've checked everywhere on the net for examples, but it is of no use.
