... with a score of 911.

Having sat the 640-507 3 long years ago I wasn't sure what to expect. I have virtually no "real-life" experience (ie on a production setup) but have managed to assemble a pretty good lab which really helped with the simulation questions.

Speaking of the simulations, does anybody know exactly what you have to do to finish them? I got the first one working but wasted a lot of time PINGing all over the show as I wasn't sure just what I had to do - whether I got full marks for just correcting the config, or if I needed to log into each router and PING all over the show.

Other than that, I agree that you must know subnetting, binary, hex, and binary to decimal conversions back to front, inside out.

Are you sure???

I also am in the boat of having to recertify soon. But my understanding is that you have to take a test with a 642- prefix to qualify.
I am studying SECUR 642-501 for this.

Take care.

Sure hope so!

I read several pages on the Cisco web-site and came to the conclusion that this will recertify me.

For example, on this page (which is the basic CCNA Certification page) there is a box at the bottom headed "CCNA Recertification" which states "CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, pass the current CCNA exam, the ICND 640-811 exam, or any exam at the Professional or Cisco Qualified Specialist level bearing the prefix 642." (Highlighting mine).

And on Cisco's Certification Tracking System (where you can check your test history and status) it shows me as "Last certified: Oct 20, 2003" and "Valid Through: Oct 20, 2006". So all seems to be in order!

But I'm one of those people who likes to double-check and triple-check everything, so I will be keeping an eye on it, and if I find out differently I'll let you guys and gals know!

Good luck with whichever route you decide to take.

Graham

Just a quick follow up on this:

The October 31 deadline has passed and I still seem to be certified, so the 640-811 certainly appears to be valid for recertifying existing CCNA's.

Anyone know if you get a new certificate sent out?

Thanks for that updated info.
Glad to see it went your way !
