I'm new to working with Informix database administration, and I understand from our vendor that we can improve system performance by rebuilding indexes on a couple of tables that are fairly fragmented. I've looked at the list of tables that our vendor recommends and they are not used in querying or reporting much, but have a great deal of data entry activity. What would be the Informix commands that you would recommend for me to check whether a table needs to have the index rebuild, the command to rebuild the index, and the command to check whether the table is now less fragmented? I understand that "make target" might work.

Should all the users be logged off the Informix system with these commands? This seems prudent, but I would appreciate the insight and advice of others.

Thank you in advance for your help and thoughts,
