I have a domain with 2 DC's. Theoretically speaking, what is the process for adding one of these DC's back in to the domain if it were to crash and I had to rebuild... From what I can gather it would be:

1. Use steps described in KB article 216498 (Ntdsutil) to remove the computer from AD.

2. Rebuild the server as a member server and connect it back on to the domain.

3. Run DCPROMO to promote it back to a DC and replicate with existing DC.

If this was a DNS server would it automatically replicate that data from the other DC (providing that was running DNS).

Thanks

You have the steps all correct. The only thing I would add would be that when you join hte server back to the domain, make sure you give it a different name. The server will get a new GUID no matter what and any references to the old server could clash and cause AD troubles.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
