Hi,

My knowledge for Novell is little.

Any1 know what is the step require to rebuild Netware 5.1 and Groupwise 6 (running on same server)

I am using ArcServe 7 for Netware.

Please help.

Thank you.

You're asking a very complex question without providing a lot of information.

I do not recommend rebuilding a system as a routine procedure. Oftentimes there are better ways to do things, since this is Novell, not Micro$$$. :) Can you explain a little more as to why you want to rebuild it? what problems are you having, etc.

Thanks, Marv

Hi,

I need to add in one more harddisk.

Now is under Raid 1 (2 Harddisk), need to change to Raid 5 (3 Harddisk).

I do not have any spare harddisk.

It is is Proliant ML370 using Smartarray 5i (internal) using ArcServe 7 for Netware.

Pls help. Thank you.

i need to extend the space of the existing volume, it is running low.

there are sys, data and mail volume, i need to extend the data and mail volume.

so i think i need to re-configure the raid.

Sorry, I was out of town for a few days.

You should be able to accomplish this task without rebuilding the server. Make sure you backup everything first.

Power off the server, insert the new hard drive.
Using the compaq smartstart cd, you should be able to change the RAID to RAID5. This should automatically see the additional space and expand the array and allocate it accordingly. I'm assuming that all the drives are the same size.

Say you have 2-18.2gb drives now that are mirrored. If you inserted another 18.2gb drive and set it to RAID 5, you will double your usable space to 36.4GB.

The only thing I'm not completely sure about is how it handles the logical drive. I believe that the logical drive you currently have will remain intact. You will need to create another logical drive to use the rest of the space. Then you can create new volumes or span the volumes within netware (Assuming you're using Traditional volumes.. NSS is a little different)..

Compaq also has an NLM that can accomplish much of the same tasks without taking the server down.. CPQONLIN.NLM. load it from the console. I've had trouble expanding and resizing RAID's from there though, so i always use smartstart.

Let me know if that makes sense or if you have any further questions. Hope this helps and is not too late.

Marvin

Yeah, I've had problems with CPQONLIN, usually the server soft abends. You will have to create an additional logical drive so you can see the new space, you will also have to create a NetWare partition on the new logical drive via NWCONFIG so you can allocate the diskspace
